Shooting at Howe Park Injures 4 People Shot in the Arden-Arcade Area of Sacramento

Sacramento County deputies are examining a gunfire incident that took place late Saturday at Howe Park in Sacramento while deputies were dispersing an unsanctioned gathering of a crowd of several hundred.

Prior to the Shooting

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies first arrived at the Arden-Arcade park around 6:30 PM on April 18 after being notified of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. Not long after, a second caller reported mentioning a possible physical fight taking place inside the park.

A law enforcement helicopter was sent to survey the area but could not confirm any ongoing fight. Despite this, it was apparent that a massive group had assembled at the park without official sanction.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies began the process of clearing the park by surrounding the park and making announcements commanding those gathered to vacate the area. About 15 minutes were given for the gathering to break up.

It was during this dispersal that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition rang out. The barrage of gunfire caused mass panic. Law enforcement wasted no time in finding those who had been shot.

Four People Shot

Ultimately, four victims were discovered with shooting injuries. The four individuals — comprising three men and one woman each apparently in their twenties — were rushed to local Sacramento hospitals. Hospital staff noted that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one person's injuries were considered minor. In a positive development, all four were in stable condition.

Metro Fire Sacramento were called to the scene and helped triage the injured before they click here were taken to the hospital.

Crime Scene Evidence

The center of the incident was confirmed to have happened on Cottage Way close to the local Home Depot located at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. Law enforcement investigators located extra shell casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Bullet holes were discovered in the metal fencing adjacent to the nearby Home Depot. This ballistic evidence pointed to that at least one of the shooters had been discharging rounds toward the south from along Cottage Way toward the Home Depot building and parking lot. The store itself was put under lockdown as a precaution. CSI units alongside detectives kept processing evidence well into the night.

Suspects Detained

Details gathered over police scanner frequencies revealed that a Kia vehicle was contacted by law enforcement in the Solano County area. Four suspects were held for questioning. Sheriff's units were traveling to Solano County to pick up those detained for processing in Sacramento County. Video evidence established that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
